Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site of Canada
In 1799 the North West and Hudson's Bay companies set up rival
posts at the end of the fur trade line on the North Saskatchewan
River. Explorer David Thompson used the North West post as a base
for finding a pass across the Rocky Mountains. Today the
archaeological remains of four trading posts are protected
while presenting the site's history through interpretive
demonstrations and special events. Located 6km west of RMH on Hwy
11A. Ph: (403)
